Bell Tower

In 1862, the construction of a three-story bell tower at the Bodbe Convent began, overseen by Archimandrite Makari (Matatashvili). The work was completed in 1885 during the leadership of Hieromonk Nikoloz Mikeladze.
The architecture of the bell tower combines elements of Neo-Gothic and traditional Georgian ecclesiastical styles. Its pointed roof and vertical lines are characteristic of Neo-Gothic design, while the alternating use of brick and light-coloured decorative patterns reflects Western influences that spread in Georgia toward the end of the nineteenth century. The arched windows, geometric motifs, and the crosses and ornamentation adorning the façade are distinctive features of traditional Georgian church architecture.
At the beginning of the twenty-first century, the restoration of the bell tower was made possible through the financial support of Konstantine Rogava and Leri Mirashvili.
