Icon of the Iveron Holy Mother of God
Among the sacred treasures of the convent is the wonderworking Iveron Icon of the Holy Mother of God. The original icon is kept on Mount Athos, at the Monastery of Iveron, while this copy was made at the beginning of the twentieth century, likewise on Mount Athos.
During the communist period, when the convent was converted into a hospital, the icon was used as a table in the X-ray room. On one occasion, an impious man attempted to desecrate the icon and cut the face of the Holy Mother of God with a knife. For this act, he was severely punished and died suddenly. The marks of the knife cuts remain visible on the icon to this day.
In the 1990s, the icon began to stream myrrh abundantly.
