Life of Saint Nino
Saint Nino was born in Cappadocia into a noble Christian family. When she was twelve years old, her parents moved to Jerusalem, where she was raised in faith and piety. At the age of fourteen, the Most Holy Theotokos appeared to her in a vision and instructed her to go to Georgia to preach the faith of Christ.
Enduring many hardships and labours, Saint Nino converted the royal family of Kartli and, through them, brought the entire nation to the Christian faith. In Mtskheta, King Mirian built the first church of Georgia, where – through Saint Nino’s prayers – a great cedar pillar miraculously rose from the tree that had grown over the Lord’s robe. Because of this miracle, the church was named Svetitskhoveli, meaning “the Living Pillar.”
Saint Nino later continued her preaching in Kakheti. She spent the final years of her earthly life in Bodbe, where she also reposed in the Lord.
